Clan of the Cave Bear: Discussion Questions
1. This novel explores the possibility of Neanderthal and modern Cro-magnon humans living near each other at the same time. Was the plot believable for you? Why or why not?
2. The story begins with a 5-year-old girl who is left homeless by an earthquake that destroys her family's camp. How do you think her survival would have been different in today's date? If still in the wild, how would her situation change in the year 2008?
3. What does "the Clan" symbolize for you?
4. What are some similarities between the "medicine women" and present-day doctors?
